A Signal Victory: Bennington, August 16, 1777

Join the Mount Independence Coalition and the Orwell Free Library for this talk by author, historian and Coalition board member Ennis Duling about the Battle of Bennington. The talk will be centered on people and their personalities, especially John Stark of New Hampshire and Seth Warner of Vermont. The talk is given in conjunction with the Orwell Free Library reading program and connected to the book Look to the Mountain, by Legrand Cannon, Jr.  The Coalition respectfully requests that attendees wear masks in the auditorium.  Consider calling, 802-948-2000, to reserve a seat. 

 

Mushrooms on the Mount

Do you see interesting mushrooms in your travels and wish you knew more about what they are? Would you like to learn tips about how to more confidently identify wild mushrooms? Join naturalist, mycologist, and professional photographer Meg Madden for a curiosity walk along the hiking trails of Mount Independence. As a myco-educator Meg loves to share her knowledge of the natural world, particularly when it comes to all things fungi! Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Fourth Sunday: East Hubbardton Cemetery Tour

Learn the stories of the early civilians who lived in Hubbardton, the soldiers who fought there, and those buried in the East Hubbardton Cemetery. Meet at the Hubbardton Battlefield museum to start. The group will then drive down to the East Hubbardton Cemetery. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather. Offered by the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site and the Hubbardton Historical Society.  Vermont Archaeology Month event. 

Hike into History

On this guided tour, walk in the footsteps of Revolutionary War soldiers. Mount Independence Coalition president Stephen Zeoli is your guide from noon until 3:00 PM. Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather. Co-sponsored by Mount Independence Coalition.  Included in regular museum admission ($5.00 adults/free under 15).
