Coolidge Holiday Open House

Kick off the holiday season in one of Vermont’s most scenic villages!  Visit the Coolidge Birthplace, decorated as it would have been in 1872 when Calvin was born.  Winter exhibits at the Museum & Education Center, Aldrich House, Plymouth Cheese Factory, and 1924 Summer White House office.  Vermont storyteller and VPR commentator Willem Lange at 11:00, sleigh rides, old-time music, craft demonstrations, chocolate making & sampling with The Chocolatorium, lunch at the Wilder House Restaurant, special cancellation at the historic Plymouth post office, and children’s holiday activities.    

Plymouth Notch Antique Apple Fest

A celebration of the harvest, with special attention to the apple!  Tour our heirloom orchard with its unusual and rare antique apple varieties.  The day begins with the second annual Coolidge 5K Race (and “I do not choose to run” one-mile walk) at 10:00.  Special guest Anne Collins, author of “Vintage Pies,” speaks about heritage harvest recipes (and shares samples!) at 1:30 PM.  Activities for the entire family: cider pressing, wagon rides, historic farm & craft demonstrations, barbecue & harvest treats, cheese making and guided tours of the Plymouth Cheese Factory. 

Plymouth Folk & Blues Festival

Plymouth’s 15th annual folk & blues concerts feature stars from Vermont and nationally known musicians.  The 2019 lineup includes Dan Weber, Jay Psaros, The Whispering Tree, The Milkhouse Heaters, Zack Dupont, and The Kennedys.  Wagon rides on Saturday; children’s crafts and face painting both days.  The concerts are free; donations are welcomed.  Organized by Jay Ottaway and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.  For more details, see www.plymouthfolk.com  

Grace Coolidge Musicale #3

The series concludes with Abigail Charbeneau and Susan Cobb presenting a “piano four hands” program featuring music by American composers George Gershwin and Amy Beach.  The recital includes Beach’s Summer Dreams - music influenced by her time at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH.  Donation is suggested.  This series is made possible by a grant from the Alma Gibbs Donchian Foundation.

Plymouth Old Home Day

Join us for this century-old town tradition!  Reenactment of Calvin Coolidge’s “Homestead Inaugural” at 2:47. Wagon rides, chicken barbecue, old-time music, sheep shearing, The King’s Rangers living history reenactors, Green Mountain Time Keepers Society, traditional crafts demonstrations, and “Clara’s Games” - historic children’s games organized by the Vermont Historical Society.

Coolidge Musicale #2

Ellen Nordstrom and Abigail Charbeneau present Flighty Females and Other Femmes Fatales from the Golden Age of Broadway with songs full of optimism, hope, and vocal tangos.  The program includes music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Kurt Weil, Lerner and Loewe, and Frank Loesser.  This series is made possible by a grant from the Alma Gibbs Donchian Foundation.        

President Calvin Coolidge Birthday Celebration

Selected as a “Top 10 Summer Event” by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce!  Plymouth’s July 4th commemorates the Nation’s birth, as well as the only U.S. president born on Independence Day.  The day begins at 10:00 AM with a Naturalization Ceremony – the induction of 20 new U.S. citizens.  At 12:00 noon, the Vermont National Guard leads a march to the cemetery where a wreath from the White House is placed at the president’s gravesite.  Afternoon activities include Stringfield Springers old-time string band, barbecue, birthday cake, historic craft demonstrations, and wagon rides. In collaboration with the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation.

Grace Coolidge Musicale #1

The series begins its 14th season with cellist Kate Jensik and pianist Abigail Charbeneau performing the Sonata in E minor by Johannes Brahms.  The piano and cello are equal partners in this three-movement sonata that displays many of the composer’s signature styles including hemiola, dynamic octave passages, and sumptuous lyricism.  Donation is suggested.
