Silent Film Night #1 featuring Buster Keaton

7 PM

Enjoy golden hour on the scenic grounds of historic Plymouth Notch during Vermont’s most verdant time of year. Buster Keaton’s 1924 silent film, “Sherlock Jr.” and other short works will be shown on the Museum and Education Center lawn. Bring a lawn chair. Visitors are encouraged to come early to enjoy a picnic. In the event of rain, the screening will be in the museum.

Wednesdays with Farmer Fred in Plymouth Notch

10 AM – 5 PM

Beginning June 14th,  Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site’s resident farmer will be on hand each Wednesday of the season to demonstrate historic farming tools and techniques.  Visitors may witness such activities as sheep shearing, rye harvesting, or cider pressing. In addition to being an excellent educator, Farmer Fred is also a renown storyteller and is sure to entertain.

Vermont Days at President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site

10 AM – 5 PM

Come kickstart the summer season at Calvin Coolidge’s hometown by enjoying free admission to the site. A ribbon cutting for the new special exhibit “Coolidge’s Contemporaries: The ascension of early 20th century world leaders” will take place on Sunday June 11 at 2:00 p.m.  The Orton Family, proprietors of the Vermont Country Store, will speak about the Coolidge legacy in Vermont and cut the ribbon. Refreshments to follow.

 

Plymouth Notch Holiday Open House

Did you know that Calvin Coolidge was the first to President to host a National Tree Lighting Ceremony? The Coolidge State Historic Site will be celebrating the season with a tree lighting to take place on the porch of the Cilley General Store at 1:00. Immediately following, guests are invited to the historic Union Christian Church for caroling and recitations of President Coolidge’s Christmas addresses. Guests can also stroll through the historic village, pick-up last-minute holiday gifts at the museum gift shop clearance sale, make a live wreath, stencil holiday stationary, and taste cheeses at the Plymouth Cheese factory.  Admission to this family friendly event is free. Donations are always appreciated.

Plymouth Notch Antique Apple Fest & 5K Race

A celebration of the harvest, with special attention to the apple! The day begins with the fourth annual Coolidge 5K Race (and “I do not choose to run” one-mile walk) organized by the Coolidge Foundation at 10:00.  Activities for the entire family: cider pressing, vintage apple tastings, wagon rides, historic farm & craft demonstrations, cheese making, and more!   

Plymouth Folk & Blues Festival: Day 1

Selected as a “Top 10 Fall Event” by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce!

Plymouth’s 17th Annual Folk & Blues Festival is a two-day event featuring stars from Vermont and nationally known musicians.  The 2022 lineup includes Jay Ottaway and the Ramble, The Speckers, Sarah King, Craig Bickhardt, Alastair Moock, and Reggie Harris..  The concerts are free; donation is suggested.  Organized by Jay Ottaway and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.  For more details, see www.plymouthfolk.com  

Grace Coolidge Musicale #2: "Liz and Dan Faiella"

The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, with Liz and Dan Faiella, will host a Grace Coolidge Musicale on Sunday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. The Faiellas will bring to life the traditional music of their roots, with crisp vocals, mesmerizing fingerstyle guitar, lyrical fiddling, and exhilarating rhythmic drive. Their music calls to mind the convivial grange hall contradances of their youth in New Hampshire, while conveying a wistfulness for their ancestral Ireland.

Plymouth Old Home Day

Join us for this century-old town tradition!  Reenactment of Calvin Coolidge’s “Homestead Inaugural” at 2:47. Wagon rides, chicken barbecue, traditional crafts demonstrations, and “Clara’s Games” - historic children’s games organized by the Vermont Historical Society. Event runs from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Grace Coolidge Musicale #1

The July 10TH Grace Coolidge Musicale will feature pianists Abigail Charbeneau and Susan Cobb. The program of classical duets will be presented on the historic Grace Coolidge piano, gifted to her by the Baldwin company, and famous for being the first piano flown in an airplane. The afternoon will include music by Schubert (Marches Militaires and Fantasy in F minor), Debussy (Petite Suite), and Gershwin (selected songs). Concert from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
