27th Annual Northeastern Open Atlatl Championship

Participate in or watch this annual atlatl championship testing skills in accuracy and distance. The sport of using the atlatl to throw darts is based on the ancient hunting technique. Newcomers to experts welcome. Flint-knapping demonstrations and lessons throughout the day. Event runs from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Vermont Archaeology Month event.

Competitors: $10   Adult visitors: $5   Children under 15: free

Atlatl Workshop

Atlatl experts Bob and Cheryll Berg of Thunderbird Atlatl teach traditional and modern techniques of atlatl and dart construction, flint knapping, hafting stone points, and cordage making. Enjoy atlatl lore and coaching on the use of your new atlatl. Workshop runs from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

Workshop fee: $70 (includes materials).    Pre-registration required. Call 802-759-2412.

Blast from the Past: Historic Clock and Watches Afternoon

Green Mountain Timekeepers Society members are in residence on the Chimney Point porch from 12:00 to 4:00 PM to keep time and talk with you about the history of your clocks and watches and how they can be repaired. Bring your old clocks and watches or photographs and learn more about your timepieces. Clock repair demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Willow Basketmaking with Barry

Make your own woven willow basket with expert guidance from Barry Keegan. You’ll use willow shoots and wands to weave and twine a round base, and sharpened spokes and twined willow shoots to form the basket walls. The final basket will be about 10 inches tall. All materials provided. Enjoy a relaxing day on the lake as you learn and create. The workshop will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The fee is $60. Suffrage Auto Tour & Blast from the Past: Chimney Point Herstory

Weather permitting the Suffrage Auto Tour with antique cars, touring weekends in August in the Lake Champlain region, comes to this area, to celebrate the 101st anniversary of the 19th amendment. A few automobiles will travel from the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and arrive at Chimney Point about 12:30 Historic personages will be on hand to talk with people about the contributions and challenging lives of some of the early French and Vermont women here, and provide some show and tell. Try your hand at turning the crank for home-made ice cream; enjoy a sample while it lasts. This event will be held from noon until 3:00 PM.
