Bennington Battle Monument Restoration

In 2020, the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation contracted with Stevens & Associates of Brattleboro and an extensive list of experts from across the nation to study the Bennington Battle Monument. The project, entitled Structural and Electrical Assessment of the Bennington Battle Monument, was conducted over several years, resulting in two extensive reports of the building’s condition, issues, and recommendations for restoration and repair.

The Monument is a nationally significant building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. As such all physical investigations and treatment recommendations must comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and the guidelines set forth by the American Institute for conservation. The implementation of such shall be guided by scholarship and best practices for the treatment of heritage sites.
