The Wash Room was converted into the kitchen around 1860 based on the date cast into the Gothic style range. The stove had a hot water tank. Water was pumped from the basement into the attic cistern to supply pressurized water for the hot water tank. There is also a kettle for laundry built into the chimney. There is a small door opening to the woodbox located in the woodshed so people didn’t have to leave the room to get wood for the fires. Water for the sink came from a spring in the basement and from a cistern in the basement that was filled with water from the house roof. A system of roof gutters directed water to the brick cistern.
