Topics relate to the history of Chimney Point, and may include archaeology, bridges, boats, clocks, post offices, and light houses. A parent or other responsible adult must be with the child.     Learn about the history of what you see walking across the Lake Champlain Bridge. Crown Point, NY, site manager Lisa Polay and Chimney Point administrator Elsa Gilbertson lead this round-trip guided walk. Meet at the Crown Point, NY, State Historic Site museum. Rain or shine, dress for the weather.  Bring a picnic to enjoy before or after. 

    Cost: $8.00 - Includes admission to both museums.

    Archivists Elizabeth H. Dow and Lucinda P. Cockrell are experts in residence on the Chimney Point porch to advise you how to weed your attic. They will share their insights, and then are available to give you advice. Bring your questions or items you have questions about. Copies of their new book, How to Weed Your Attic: Getting Rid of Junk without Destroying History, will be available for purchase.

     

  • Saturday, August 10, 2019: 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

    Artist Lillian Kennedy offers this special workshop. We start by making pocket sketchbooks from a single sheet of paper and then explore the museum and surrounding landscape with pencil and eye. Exercises in seeing, expressing, and technique will be shared as you learn to draw for the joy in seeing/ feeling/expressing without judgment. Workshop suitable for all skill levels from rank beginner to seasoned professional. Adults and children 10+. Pre-register by calling (802) 759-2412.

  • Saturday, August 10, 2019: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

    Artist Lillian Kennedy shows you how to stay fearless and serene during the creative process while you make a small Lake Champlain landscape painting. She will explain the fundamentals and demonstrate options. You’ll have plenty of room for individual expression. Take home a painting and the skills to continue on your own. You will learn the tricks to make a painting kit that fits in a baggie that you can carry with you on all your travels.     Green Mountain Timekeepers Society members are in residence on the Chimney Point porch to keep time and talk with you about the history of your clocks and watches and how they can be repaired. Bring your old clocks and watches or photographs and learn more about your timepieces.

    Members of the Twist o’Wool Guild and Strands will be in residence on the Chimney Point porch to demonstrate a variety of fiber skills, including spinning, many weaving techniques, and other crafts and arts important historically and relevant today. Bring your project or ask questions. Light refreshments.

    Learn the history of what surrounds you as you walk across the Lake Champlain Bridge. Chimney Point site administrator Elsa Gilbertson and Crown Point, NY, site friends group president Thomas Hughes lead this guided round trip walk. Meet at Chimney Point.
