Bedroom: This was Justin Morrill’s bedroom in his later years. A.J. Downing, in
his architectural guide books, recommended constructing a house with a bedroom centrally located in the house so that as the owner aged the bedroom would be convenient. A Boston news reporter came to Strafford in the 1890’s to visit the elder statesman and in the article he references this room. The room overlooks the south facing porch and gardens. The shutters on the French doors are for privacy. A large dressing room and closet adjoin this room. The window in the dressing room was originally an exterior wall.
